Beach Expectations vs. Reality
We’re all (not so) secretly planning out our next beach vacation in our heads. A lot of this is due to the amazing pictures constantly on social media depicting people having a glam time on the beach with friends. What you forget between beach trips is the actual reality of the not-so-glamorous stuff.
Sunburns
Let’s face it, for most of us, sunscreen SUCKS. I personally hate the feeling of rubbing something so thick on my skin and the greasy feeling that it leaves (especially the waterproof kind). I always find myself preferring the spray-on stuff, but either way it’s a huge hassle.
No Makeup
While you’re out trying to take pics and live your best life, you’ve gotta remember that if you plan on dipping more than your toes in the ocean (or if it’s really hot out) you won’t want to wear makeup. This makes it really hard to get the perfect pic if you’re used to wearing a full face! I typically bring ColoreScience which is a mineral powder foundation that has SPF 50 and stays on through sweat without looking runny.
Sand
The sand. Gets. Everywhere. I don’t know how else I can emphasize how much of a pain it is to wash off the sand after a beach day. At least you get some natural exfoliation
Towels
Your towel always is going to get dirty on Day 1, so either make sure you have extras, access to a washing machine, or bring a towel that repels sand. I’ve heard really good things about the Lagu Sand-Repelling Beach Blanket and it’s next on my list of things to buy for my beach trip.
Don’t get me wrong!
I absolutely adore beach vacays, I’ve already got 2 in the books for 2020, but when I’m packing I always have to remind myself just exactly what I’m getting myself in for and how to prepare.
